-
SQL is a standard language for storing, manipulating and retrieving data in databases.
Our
SQL tutorial will teach you how to use SQL in: MySQL, SQL Server, MS
Access, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Postgres, and other database
systems.
Why SQL?aSQL is widely popular because it offers the following advantages −
- Allows users to access data in the relational database management systems.
- Allows users to describe the data.
- Allows users to define the data in a database and manipulate that data.
- Allows to embed within other languages using SQL modules, libraries & pre-compilers.
- Allows users to create and drop databases and tables.
- Allows users to create view, stored procedure, functions in a database.
- Allows users to set permissions on tables, procedures and views.
- What Can SQL do?
- SQL can execute queries against a database
- SQL can retrieve data from a database
- SQL can insert records in a database
- SQL can update records in a database
- SQL can delete records from a database
- SQL can create new databases
- SQL can create new tables in a database
- SQL can create stored procedures in a database
- SQL can create views in a database
- SQL can set permissions on tables, procedures, and views
What is RDBMS?
RDBMS
stands for Relational Database Management System. RDBMS is the basis
for SQL, and for all modern database systems like MS SQL Server, IBM
DB2, Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft Access.
A
Relational database management system (RDBMS) is a database
management system (DBMS) that is based on the relational model as
introduced by E. F. Codd.
What is a table?
The
data in an RDBMS is stored in database objects which are called as
tables. This table is basically a collection of related data entries
and it consists of numerous columns and rows.
Remember,
a table is the most common and simplest form of data storage in a
relational database. The following program is an example of a
CUSTOMERS table
+----+----------+-----+-----------+----------+
|
ID | NAME | AGE | ADDRESS | SALARY
